weekly sweeps of the web
Every so often I would send my more tech savvy friends links to sites I thought they would like. A couple of them asked me why I didn't turn it into a newsletter or a blog post.. so here I am. Here is last week's weekly sweep of the web. Let me know if you like it, have any suggestions, etc!
TWITTER MANIA!!!! If
you haven't signed up - do so now (then post your name so we can all be
friends.. I'm goodwillstacy there). Lots of interesting stuff happening
with Twitter. Will blogging go by the wayside? Will people use
Twitter to post links, micro-blog, etc and then post longer stuff on
their blogs? What does this mean for conferences like SXSW? Is this
just a fad? So many questions... but in any case.. here are the links
of the week about Twitter:
http://twittervision.com/ - real time map view of who's twittering
http://twitterbuzz.com/ - what are people linking to?
http://twitthis.com/ - add a button to your blog/website to allow people to Twitter your article/post

- add an extension to Twit from your browser (Firefox)
http://mikedemers.net/projects/tweetbar/ - sidebar for Firefox or Flock to Twit or Tweet or whatever you want to call it
http://twittermap.com/ - Where are the twitterer's from? Here's a google mashup map for ya.
http://www.tinyurl.com/ - essential if you use twitter.
http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2007/03/19/BUG31OM9RN18.DTL SFgate's article about Twitter
Other Stuff:
http://www.stikkit.com/
- A very popular (won an award at SXSW for 'Best Technical
Achievement') web app. "The yellow notes that think," it bills itself
as. You can share your stickies, which makes it a great collaborative
tool. Basically it automatically categorizes (or you can categorize
yourself) your "stickies" as a 'to-do', 'calendar', or 'bookmarks.' I
know I'm missing a lot but I haven't played around with it much
lately. There is even an extensive guide to GTD w/ stikkit - http://blog.crankingwidgets.com/2007/03/13/stikkit-gtd/ - from that article you can even import your gmail contacts into Stikkit. Fun stuff. Check it out.
http://www.scribd.com/ - Getting a lot of press now, this is the "YouTube" of documents. Upload your documents online and share them.
http://franticindustries.com/blog/2007/03/24/top-40-sites-according-to-feedburner-stats/ - Top 40 Sites according to Feedburner statistics.. some good RSS feeds in here. Subscribe to some! ;)
http://www.pipl.com/
- Wanna stalk that ex? or find your crush from 3rd grade? This site
claims to be the most comprehensive people search on the 'net.
http://virb.com/
- Supposed to be the new MySpace for cool people. Much easier on the
eyes, and seems to have a better communiity. No more random 14 year
old girls posing in their underwear wanting to be your "friend." The
lack of music playing on the sites automatically is enough for me to
switch over immediately! I hate that!
